Verve recommends: our favourite ads of all time – part 2
Get ready for nostalgia and some good laughs!
Continuing our ‘Verve recommends’ series, next we give you our favourite TV ads from the late nineties and early noughties.
Pride and Prejudice
By Heineken (1998)
“Favourite ad is SO difficult. I’m a massive ad nerd and have loved advertising for a long long time… One that isn’t the best ad, but for which I have a huge soft spot is “Heineken – Pride and Extreme Prejudice”. It came out in the late 90s, when I was 12 and it was the ad that made me realise that ads cannot just sell, but can entertain, tell stories and affect emotions. Essentially, it made me fall in love with advertising.” Stu
Full moon
By Jaffa cake (1999)
“This is one of the funniest ads I’ve seen and even personally played out. ‘Full moon… half-moon… and total eclipse…’ Pure genius with just 6 words. Less can be very much more!” Ami
The Cog
By Honda (2003)
“I like this ad because I appreciate the effort it must have taken to get all the parts to move precisely in sequence in one take without using CGI, resulting in a clever execution that is very watchable. Also, the end line (“isn’t it nice when things just work?”) is a mantra for my own work in the pursuit of development perfection!” Smasher
